The Central State University Chorus performed its annual homecoming Gospel Concert Oct. 5 in Paul Robeson Auditorium.
Singing under the direction of special guest director Lawrence Ingram, the CU chorus sang an assortment of gospel tunes including Milton Bronsons Its Going to Rain and James Halls Let God Arise. The chorus inspired and lifted the spirits of the audience members.
Chorus Director William Henry Caldwell opened the concert by introducing the choir to a packed house. Backed by an array of instruments, the choir 100 voices strong filled the auditorium with beautiful music.
Audience members became part of the show when the choir sang an original piece by Ingram, Feel the Power.
Ingram took the microphone into the audience and allowed the crowd a minute in the spotlight.
Brave audience members like Foundation 2 Hall Residence Advisor Darrell Morel took the microphone and sang. CSU Dean of Students Al West also performed.
The choir amazed the crowd when it sang Wade in the Water a Negro spiritual arranged by the late Moses Hogan. It was full of energy and soul, audience member Derrick Franklin said.
Ingram has conducted the gospel concert for more than ten years. As long as they ask me back I will come, Ingram said. Choir members also look forward to the concert. Its a time when we get to acknowledge our culture by spreading the good news about Jesus Christ, choir member Kacey Edwards said.
Encouraging the audience to support the chorus, Caldwell asked audience members to purchase the groups new compact disc.
