“Democracy is a letter to the editor.”

Read that line again and dissect it. Repeat it out loud and get a clear understanding: this is your paper.

We, the Gold Torch staff, want to do for you what rap once did — inform us of news in a way that we all can understand. One difference: You can’t write hip-hop artist Jay-Z and ask him to make a song discussing the monster that is killing us — HIV/AIDS, the election, and teacher/ student intimate relationships all at once.

The staff strongly encourages letters to the editor, story ideas, and art. Contact the editor, any member of the newspaper staff, or Mr. Michael Gormley about anything you would like to see published. We don’t want to seem boring and repetitive, but we also don’t want to be too fun filled; just because we moved to a tabloid size paper doesn’t mean we will run tabloid style news.

My team and I love to write, we like to get news out that pertains to our audience. The Gold Torch is your forum, use it.

Drop letters to the editor off in the communications building or e-mail us at editor@goldtorchnews.com.
