CSU grads are stars

Five Central State graduates performed in the new American Opera “Margaret Garner” (based on the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison) with music by composer Richard Danielpour as part of the Cincinnati Operas Summer Festival in July.

The graduates are Avery Hammonds ‘92 (pictured second from the left to the left of legendary Denyce Graves, holding infant, who performed in the title role of Margaret Garner; Photo by Phil Groshong), Jason Amos ‘96, Wesley Barnfield ’93, Grecia Vaughn ‘02, and Catherine Scott. Grecia Vaughn who recently completed her masters degree in vocal performance from Miami Univeristy in Oxford was one of the principal singers.
 


Chorus director and baritone William Henry Caldwell was the featured soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Band in Troy, Ohio August 21. Caldwell performed works by Gershwin and narrated the Lincoln Portraits by Aaron Copland.

The Chorus has been invited to appear with the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall in January at the annual Martin Luther King Celebration and to appear in February with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
